Ian Oyler, Founder & CEO
Hi, my name is Ian Oyler. I am 19 years old, and the founder of Salty Seagull Clothing Co. My vision of producing quality Nova Scotian goods is matched with a passion to protect and preserve our oceans as well. In March 2018, scientists declared the Great Barrier reef off the coast of Queensland Australia is in it's "terminal stage". The Great Barrier Reef is home to six species of turtles, 215 different birds, 17 species of sea snakes and more than 1,500 types of fish. There are over 5 trillion pieces of plastic floating in our oceans. This garbage is bottlenecked by ocean currents and form 5 different garbage patches, the largest being The Great Pacific Garbage Patch which has an estimated surface area of 1.6 million square kilometers, an area twice the size of Texas or three times the size of France.
As of May 2018, we have been donating 10% of all profits to an incredible organization called The Ocean Cleanup. This is the largest ocean cleanup in history. As a Maritimer growing up on the Atlantic Ocean, I feel a deep moral obligation to use my social platform, as small as it may be, to do something good for our green and blue planet.
